Leo was shipped to Brazil as a puppy. A multiple Best in Show dog, Leo left as the #1 Sporting Dog. He was purchased and flown from Brazil to Camp Oakley at the age of three. The "Lawman" was a magnificent dog, known for his type- particularly his head. His head has been photographed, measured, illustrated, discussed and described, even bronze replicated. When I saw Leo in Sao Paulo, I finally realized what an English Setter head was supposed to look like. I was stunned. The combination of level planes, full stop, brick like shape, and softness is something that we will always strive to repeat. Leo is a constant reminder to us not to forget breed type in our efforts. He was the key to our program. And he was bilingual. He understood "cookie" in English and Portuguese. Leo passed away in 1999 at the age of 14. He will be sorely missed and always remembered.
